But in the fourteenth chapter, we find a break in events - as if God permits a pause to occur in the unfolding of these end-times events in order to give heaven's perspective of what's happening. Generally when poets do theology there's a bit of trimming and clean-up to be done afterwards. To read the Scriptures, not as an attorney may read a will, merely to know the sense, but as the heir reads it, as a description and proof of his interest: to hear the Gospel, as the voice of our Beloved, so as to have little leisure either for admiring the abilities, or censuring the defects of the preacher; and, in prayer, to feel a liberty of pouring out our hearts before the Lord, to behold some glances of His goodness passing before us, and to breathe forth before Him the tempers of a child, the spirit of adoption: and thus, by beholding His glory, to be conformed more and more to His image, and to renew our strength, by drawing water out of the wells of salvation: herein is blessedness. He has inseparably connected their happiness with His own. There is perhaps a hint along one line given to us in Volume 2, beginning with the last paragraph on page Check the Archives!

You'll notice that the words of this verse make it even more specific who the "blessed ones" are. A satanically-inspired world ruler will arise, drawing all the nations of the earth under his evil spell. Generally when poets do theology there's a bit of trimming and clean-up to be done afterwards.

The Bible says that to die outside of Christ is not only 'not a blessing' - it's a "fearful thing". That Paul could thus challenge and triumph over all charges and enemies was not an appendage of his office as an apostle, but a part of his experience as a believer; arid it lies equally open to us; for we have the same Gospel and the same promises as he had; nor is the efficacy of the Holy Spirit's teaching a whit weakened by length of time. Their testing will prove to be only temporal, their loss by no means eternal, their suffering wonderfully proclamational, and their faithfulness soon to be gloriously rewarded. These proclamations are instructive in that they communicate to the hearers that many who are in a deplorable condition are blessed in spite of this because the kingdom of heaven has been opened even to them by Jesus Christ. It's as if the authority of heaven itself speaks aloud in our hearing and says, "Let it be written as an unchanging testimony! Our hard labors will come to an end and we will enter into a glorious rest of eternal, joyous, unhindered, unlimited service to the beloved Savior.
